This years Annual Cook-off will include Ribs, Chicken (Optional), Appetizer and Apple Pie contest and auction. We will also have our BBQ rib dinner. Please plan to join us at the Wapello County Fairgrounds on August 2nd, 2025 for G.A.T.E. 19th Annual Rib Cook Off and Apple Pie Contest! Camping available for $20 per night. This year's event to benefit electronic sign for Main Street.
CONTEST INFORMATION:
RIB COOK OFF:
$30 Entry fee. Teams may register day of the event. Must cook 6 pork ribs and turn in for judging at specified times. Boxes will be provided. Cooks meeting at 9 am. Traveling trophy and cash prize for the champion additional prizes for the next 3 teams. Limited electrical hook ups available. Contact Jeanna Thunderhawk 641.226.7702 with questions.
CHICKEN COOK OFF:
$20 Entry fee. Teams may register day of the event. Must cook 6 bone in chicken pieces of choice and turn in for judging at specified times. Boxes will be provided. Cooks meeting at 9 am. Trophy and Cash prize for the champion and additional prizes for the next 2 teams. This is optional and you do not need to cook chicken in order to do ribs.
APPETIZER CONTEST :
Open to all registered cooks. Three portions in disposable dish/container. Turn in 1:00 pm. Trophy to winner. Contestants may register the day of the competition. To enter you must make 1 Apple pie to be judged and 1 pie of any flavor for the pie auction. Pies are to be turned in by 12:00 noon. Contact Sarah Rupe 641-777-8301 for details.
