U.S. Muster rolls record Curtis King, at age 80, as the oldest man serving in the Union Army. King was a member of 37th Iowa Infantry Regiment which was nicknamed the "Graybear Regiment" as all the men serving in it were in their 40's or older. His gravesite can be found along Highway 63 between Ottumwa and Eddyville enar the Eddyville Road turnoff.
